Well, it's Wednesday, September 10, 2008, 9:13 AM GMT+2. The Large Hadron Collider at CERN is supposedly in operation right now. The world is still here. Amazing, isn't it!

There is an anti-science sentiment growing in the United States and around the world. We will be writing more about that in the future.

John McCain and George W. Bush assert that "the surge is working", citing reduced violence in Iraq as proof. The other way to spin this is "we're winning!". Hurray for us! This argument is a distraction.

Let's say you break a pair of eye glasses. You then put a piece of electricians tape around the bridge, wear them to work and tell everyone how great your solution is working and how proud you are. This is exactly what anyone who says "the surge is working" is saying to you. We made a terrible mistake. Lots of people died. We "fixed" it by sending a huge number of additional troops.

John McCain has no plan to reduce troops in Iraq even though:
